Scaled

A version of the workout adjusted to your ability while keeping the intended effect.

What it means in a class

Scaling means adjusting the weight, the movement or the volume so the workout does what it's meant to do for you. Ring rows instead of pull-ups, a lighter barbell, fewer reps, a shorter row — all scaling.

Every single class at Grand Union is scalable, and your coach will offer options before the clock starts. Scaling isn't a lesser version of the workout; it's the correct version for you today.

On the whiteboard

Scaled: knee push-ups in place of handstand push-ups.
